Subject: 1st Period talk at Crosby Middle School

Representative Ron Crimm,

Mr. Crimm, I would like to thank you very much for coming out to Crosby Middle this morning and giving up your time to talk to my American History class. I feel they gained from the experience. I will talk with them tomorrow and review some of the items which you discussed with them and find out what they retained.

We discuss many of the topics you brought up today throughout the year, as they bring in their current events. We will discuss laws and government when we study the Constitution around Holiday Break in December. You gave them a great primer lesson.

I told you I keep my personal politics out of all of our discussions, even though I would like to tell them what to believe. I tell them to formulate their own Ideas, not just become what their parents, teachers or boyfriend/girlfriend is. Know what you stand for and why. I thought you did a great job not telling them your party, but making them think about the issues. If they were interested I guarantee they went home and looked you up on the internet or asked their parents about you. I also tell them to get involved in politics and volunteer for a candidate they relate to. I want them to become informed voters, not just voters.

Again thanks for coming and all you do for the State of Kentucky and the district I teach in. Crosby is a great place and keep looking out for us up in Frankfort. Call if you need any help or support. I will be there.

Mr. Jerry M. Durbin
Crosby Middle School History Instructor
